DEMI BARBITO - The Halo Storm Project ( 4 song
demo )
there are 9 songs on the actual CD.
First off let me tell you Demi is no new comer to the rock scene. He played
in several different bands throughout the 90's. Including the infamous So.
California band "Band Of Destruction". A theatrical improv band that developed
quite a cult following before calling it quits.
The first thing that came to mind when first hearing Demi was
"madman". Shred can either methodically massage your brain and lull you into
a deep state of unconsciousness. Or it can scream wake the f~ck up, You're
in danger here! And Demi pulls off both effortlessly on this demo.
The second thing was wow, this guys a seriously talented musician.
Demi does more than just play at warp speed. He plays beautifully (at warp
speed). Never losing site of the melody. This is what separates Demi Barbito
from some other speed demons.
But this demo shows that Demi is indeed
a well seasoned musician. Showing diversity in that each song is of different
style or influence. Demi can shred! The note density is unbelievable. Then
there are moments that are simply Demi. Like the sound effects, dead breaks
into unexpected changes. Yet there's a sense of humor beneath it all.
Given the overall theme of the CD.
Demi could easily join the masses and
go main stream. But instead he plays just outside the parameters. Not only
making his music unique . But memorable.
THE TRACKS

The
(demo) C.D. opened with "HALO STORM". A song that feels like a
blend of old metal/new metal, with an industrial influence. A great introduction
to Demi's original style. This one has a pretty heavy shred factor too. When
Demi kicks into shred mode. You Really do feel the storm! The leads throughout
Halo Storm are just the way I like 'em....In Your Face Aggressive...Here
Demi walks the tightrope perfectly between rock and metal.
Track #2 "IF THE DEVIL CALLS, I'M NOT
IN" First off...I Love the name of this song. My sentiments
exactly! ...With a smooth jazzy feel, and a very fiery groove. This
is my favorite of the 4 songs on the demo. It hooked me right from
the start. After a few rings of a phone, Demi phases in. He lays down the
rhythm groove for a few seconds to build the foundation on which this beautiful
song is built. Then Demi literally explodes into a beautifully powerful shred
lead. Played with the kind of soul and conviction, that I can only compare
to the great Carlos Santana. In a style I call "Beautifully/Aggressive".
It features a sh*tload of white hot rock style shredding. I liked all the
songs, but this one reached me on the inside. I also love Demi's tone on
this song. I had to hit replay more than a few times on this track. Beautiful
Man!!!
Track #3 "BLOOD" A straight forward rocker that
features Demi on vocals. As well as some interesting breaks throughout
the song. One interesting break features the sound of a hammer pounding.
Considering the lyrics, this is a haunting sound. But I regress, a rocker
indeed..... "Blood" has an old school rock/metal vibe. And Demi distorted
his vocals a bit giving it a more basic roots feel. On "Blood" Demi puts
away all the pyrotechnics. And delivers a killer rock tune in the truest
sense. This song provides an even wider range to the "Halo Storm
Project" CD.
Track #4 "WHITEWASHED TOMBS"
This killer tune has a bluesy slow burn feel throughout.
With a shred factor that goes off the scale....I love the ominous vibe of
this one. And the solos follow suit. The whole time sounding dark and mysterious.
An extremely powerful tune for one of the songs with a slower tempo.
The sheer attack of the leads tells you something big is going on
here..
