THE CHRIS ALLEN  POWER TRIP
~TROUBLE ON THE HORIZON
~
6 song demo

THE DISC & ARTIST

~

"Trouble On The Horizon" contains some of the nastiest metal grooves. Some of the heaviest rock grooves and some of the sweetest (melodic) rock. It even comes with this warning on the front: Yea, it's all here. This music begs to be turned up to 11 (that's louder than 10 you know.......an old Spinal Tap joke...sorry...)
This isn't just another vehicle to shred over. Although Chris does do his share of shredding, he focuses as heavily on the song writing. Creating a style that's partly heavy rock and partly heavy metal. Rock songs with a strong metal influence is the overall feel of the CD.
Trouble On The Horizon is a one man project. It's written, arranged, performed, and produced by Chris.
Chris is a fantastic guitarist with a very (make that VERY) aggressive rock style. He also has a very large vocabulary of rock and metal riffs. Shifting from one to the other effortlessly, sometimes within the same song.
The disc features 6 songs. Each ranging in style from rock to heavy rock to heavy metal.   The songs may vary in style. But one thing stays constant. His great sense of melody. This sense of melody, and Chris' metal stylings create a feel that will appeal to both the die hard guitar music fans. And the radio listening music fans....
And shred.....Oh yea! He can shred. Even though shredding isn't the focus of the CD. He can absolutely sccrreeaamm!!! Chris was a student of the great Joe Stump. And it shows.....Chris can blaze. And the attack on his rock leads is unforgiving at times.
Chris seems a well rounded musician. Doing it all himself. And pulling it off perfectly! I can't wait to see where he goes next. I'm sure we'll be hearing more from him in the near future.

NOTE: One thing stood out right away from some other one man projects I've heard. The other instruments! Some other guitarists sound as if they're adequite off their main instrument. But they leave you thinking, they should have hired a band. And if they programmed the drums. It sounds as if robby the robot is playing. No imagination and pretty much cookie cutter patterns. Let's just say it's sometimes easy to tell if it's man or machine. TOTH has drums programmed by Chris. I have no idea if Chris was ever a drummer. But I listened for all the cliches and redundancies that amature programmers make. And I found the programming imaculate and very (VERY) real sounding. As a matter of fact I didn't realize they weren't real drums until I read it on the CD insert. And his bass playing is equally impressive. Apparently Chris has many skills....

The C.D. opened with "TROUBLE ON THE HORIZON"  A very heavy rocker with a thrash groove (serious metal roots).  And a very evil/nasty feel. This is a powerful opening to the CD. About 7 seconds into this one I already had my head banging. Man I love the feel to this one. Evil....Evil...Evil!  I
Track #2 "C-YA"
This one comes out of the gate like a mad greyhound. With one thing in mind. Go Man Go......I think it's called "C-YA" because Chris takes off at the very beginning and he's gone...A white hot radio friendly rocker. Featuring some grade"A" rock leads. Played with shred attitude. (or is it shred leads played with rock attitude?...anyway)
Track #3 "FLY'n"  A sweet/but heavy balladesque tune. (yeah, that really pins it down. you'll have to give it a listen to get it). But a very nice very melodic rocker. With a radio friendly feel to it. But with a much sharper edge. Played in the classic rock style. Features powerful beautifully/aggressive soloing. No flash, just heartfelt emotion.
Track #4 "The FUNK SHOP"  So far you could have played this CD with your parents in the car (if they were fairly hip). But this is where that changes. This is also coincidently my favorite track. Simply put this is Chris unleashed. Bustin' out the chops & Pulling out the stops. This song rocks!
Track #5 "DISTURBING THE PEACE"  A straight metal tune. On the disc, Chris primarily played rock with metal overtones. But here he keeps it metal. Some extremely hot roots metal riffage happening here (i.e. mathias jabbs, etc.) I wish Chris did a little more soloing on this one. But when he does, Watch Out! It's absolutely chaotic!!
Track #6 "TY"
A beautifully powerful slow song. A great solo throughout. With a classic rock feel. A perfect good bye from a guitarist you'll surely be hearing again.

"TROUBLE ON THE HORIZON"
Quite simply this is a white hot rock/metal CD. With a razors edge that'll cut you!!
